Smiling and big, the mother hen strides across the page while four tiny chicks trot in a tidy line behind her, like they're following mom on a walk. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the baby chicks: fill all four chick bodies and heads with lemon yellow, leaving the small beak highlights and the bright spots on their faces white.
- 2Color the mother hen's body, wing and neck with warm brown, working around the feather lines so they stay visible.
- 3Fill the hen's comb and wattle with cherry red, then add the beak and feet in golden orange.
- 4Color the two flowers: the pink one with soft pink petals and a lemon yellow center, and the purple one with lavender purple petals and a lemon yellow center.
- 5Finish the grass and leaves with leaf green, keeping the background paper white.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker brown along the underside of the hen and wing for depth, and leave the eye whites bright white.
