Mother duck glides over a pond with a smile, and four fluffy ducklings paddle close around her, each one grinning with an open beak. Water lilies bloom on big round lily pads in the foreground and down the right side, and ripple lines trace the surface. Tall cattails and long grass blades frame both top corners, two dragonflies hover above, and soft bushes sit in the distance. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the ducks: color the mother duck's body, the four ducklings, and their beaks with golden yellow, and leave the eye whites and small highlights white.
- 2Fill the pond water with sky blue, adding light ripple lines around the ducks and lily pads and leaving the gaps near the ducks white.
- 3Color the lily pads leaf green and the small pads light green, then fill the pink lily flowers with soft pink, keeping the flower centers in golden yellow.
- 4Add the reeds and cattails: use leaf green for the leaves, light green for the lighter blades, olive green for the stalks, and cinnamon brown for the cattail heads.
- 5Color the dragonflies pale blue and the background bushes leaf green, leaving the sky white.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading on the duck wings and under the lily pads to make them stand out.
