A smiling mother duck glides over a calm pond. Four fluffy ducklings paddle in a neat line behind her, and one more sits right next to her wing. A friendly dragonfly with a happy face hovers above them. Tall cattails and grassy reeds frame both sides, and ripples spread across the water around the ducks. Up front there's a large lotus flower and a smaller one, each resting on a round lily pad, plus another pad floating on the left. The shapes are big and clear, so it works nicely for preschoolers and early elementary kids still building crayon control. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the ducks: color the mother duck's body and all four ducklings in golden yellow, leaving the small white highlights on their heads and wings.
- 2Color the pond water in sky blue, and fill the lily pads and reeds with leaf green and sage green.
- 3Paint the cattails and their stems chestnut brown, then add the orange beaks on the mother duck and ducklings.
- 4Fill the lily flowers with light pink and hot pink, adding peach pink to the inner petals for a soft glow.
- 5Add the dragonfly: pale blue wings, sky blue body, and a tiny white highlight on each wing.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker green or brown along the edges of the reeds and lily pads for a bit of depth.
