Mulan Admiring a Little Cricket Cage by Bamboo

A young woman with long dark hair tied low with a band stands in a wrapped robe with wide sleeves, smiling down at a small cage she holds up by its ring handle. Inside the cage sits a tiny cricket-like bug with long antennae, and she points a finger toward it. Behind her, bamboo stalks with long pointed leaves fill the background, and a flat horizontal line runs across the lower part of the page. The cage has a decorative pagoda-style roof and thin vertical bars. This page works well for a parent or teacher who wants to talk about color choices. Try soft greens for the bamboo, a bold color for the robe layers, and a bright shade for the little cricket so it stands out. The large hair area is a good spot for practicing steady, even shading with a black or dark blue crayon.
