On the Trail of Paw Prints With a Dog Man Pup
Coloring guide
Nose down and tail raised, a floppy-eared dog with a big smile bends low to follow a trail of paw prints. It wears a paneled cap with a little button on top. Four paw prints cross the path toward its nose, and fluffy rounded bushes, small grass tufts and little oval pebbles dot the grassy ground around it. Large shapes and bold outlines make this an easy pick for preschoolers and early elementary kids, and the paw prints are a nice place for younger children to practice staying inside the lines. A bright red or blue cap will stand out against green bushes and a sandy brown path. Print or download this free page for a classroom project or a weekend craft. Looking for more? A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big golden orange areas: the dog's body, back, front leg, tail, paws and ears, leaving the eye whites white.
- 2Fill the bushes and grass with light green on the top and right, and forest green on the darker bushes and grass tufts at the left and far right.
- 3Color the dog's cap with bright red on the top panels and button, and royal blue on the brim and the front-left panel.
- 4Add the blue collar in royal blue, then color the paw prints and the nose in chocolate brown.
- 5Use light tan for the dirt path, the small ground marks and the chin shadow, and taupe for the little pebble near the bottom left.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker orange along the dog's belly and under the ears to give the dog a bit of depth.
