Owl Child on a Stump in Halloween Costumes

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.

1. 1Start with the big brown areas: color the owl hood, its ears, the child's hair and the top wing feathers with chocolate brown.
2. 2Fill the tree stump with tan brown, leaving the light ring on its top unshaded.
3. 3Color the middle wing feathers burnt orange and the lower wing feathers light gold, then fill the owl belly oval, the face and cheeks with cream beige.
4. 4Paint the owl's feet and eye rims in golden yellow and the beak in bright orange, keeping the eye whites and shiny spots white.
5. 5Add the leaves and grass in leaf green and lime green, then finish the little tongue in coral pink.
6. 6Optional: add slightly darker strokes of chocolate brown or burnt orange on the wings and hood for a bit of depth.
