Polar Bear and Cub on a Winter Ice Floe

On a chunky block of ice, a big smiling polar bear has a little cub snuggled against its side, and the cub tilts its head with a happy grin. Both have fluffy fur drawn with soft strokes, round ears and big shiny eyes. The floe has thick, angular sides, and small bits of broken ice bob in the wavy water around it. Snowy hills sit far off on the horizon, and a simple sun with straight rays shines in the upper right. Little hands can fill the large open shapes on the bears, while older kids can shade the fur lines. Icy light blues and soft lavender suit the floe and water, and the bears can stay white or get a bit of pale gray. This free printable is nice for a quiet afternoon at home or in class. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the big bear's body and head, plus the baby bear's body, with warm cream, leaving the small black eye shine spots white.
- 2Color the big bear's two round ears soft pink and the sun golden yellow.
- 3Color the top of the ice floe very light blue and its cracked front sides pale ice blue.
- 4Color the two distant mountains and the top of the small floating ice pieces very light blue, then fill their sides with pale ice blue.
- 5Add a sky blue shadow in the gap between the big bear's back legs.
- 6Optional: Lightly add a touch of extra cream along the cub's fluffy edges for a soft, fluffy look.
