Pond Day: Blastoise Page With a Turtle and Four Ducklings

Standing on the muddy bank, a friendly cartoon turtle with big round eyes and a happy grin looks down at four little ducklings paddling below. Its shell is covered in large hexagon panels that are easy to color, so small hands do well here. Ripples circle each duckling, and smooth stones sit in and along the pond. Tall cattails and grass blades frame both sides of the page, and a few small grass tufts sit by the turtle's feet. It's filed under Blastoise, but the picture shows an ordinary turtle rather than the Pokémon. A leafy green for the shell panels, sunny yellow for the ducklings, and soft grays and browns for the stones and cattails would work nicely. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the pond water in sky blue and the rocks in light gray, leaving the white ripple lines untouched.
- 2Fill the turtle's head, legs, belly, and the small grass patches near it with light green, keeping the eye whites white.
- 3Color the shell plates with dark green and forest green, then fill the outer rim bands with lime green and olive green.
- 4Color the four ducklings in golden yellow, add orange beaks, and fill their little feet with pale cream.
- 5Add the grass blades in leaf green and forest green, the cattails in brown, and the turtle's smile in coral pink.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes along the shell edges and under the ducklings to give them a little depth.
