Three smiling potato characters share a checkered picnic blanket, and the two larger ones and the little one in the middle each hold a radish with leafy tops. The big potatoes on the left and right have long eyelashes and happy open-mouth grins, with the small potato tucked snugly between them. A woven basket in front is filled with more radishes and leafy greens, and a glass pitcher of juice or milk sits beside it. Behind the family stand a large tree trunk with a leafy canopy, two puffy clouds, round bushes and little tufts of grass. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the sky: color the two clouds sky blue, leaving their outlines clean.
- 2Fill the three potato bodies with tan brown, and color the basket weave and the potato feet the same tan brown.
- 3Color the bushes and grass forest green and light green, and the tree leaves in forest green and light green.
- 4Paint the carrots orange and the leafy tops forest green, then add bright red tomatoes in the basket.
- 5Color the checkered picnic cloth in alternating coral red squares, keeping the white squares white, and add pale blue to the jug handle and rim.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker tan brown along the edges of the potatoes and basket for a bit of shading, and keep the eye whites, milk and tree highlight white.
