Princess and Knight Trick-or-Treating Up the Garden Path

Hand in hand, two costumed children follow a winding stepping-stone path to a front door. We see them from behind as they glance at each other and smile. One wears a princess crown and a long gown with puffy sleeves, with wavy hair down her back. The other has a knight's helmet with a feather plume, a tunic and tall boots, and carries a shield with a star on it. At the end of the path, a grinning jack-o'-lantern glows on the doorstep of a house with a paneled door and a four-pane window. Bushes, a leafy tree and tufts of grass fill the yard. The big shapes on this free printable are easy for small hands. Bright purple or pink looks nice on the gown, silver-gray on the helmet, and a warm orange pumpkin will stand out at the door. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big background areas: fill the sky and house walls with soft yellow, and the door and door frames with butter yellow, leaving the window panes for later.
- 2Color the grass patches and bushes with lime green and forest green, and the tree leaves with leaf green, so the garden comes alive.
- 3Fill the princess's dress with rose pink and the puffy sleeves and dress hem with baby pink, then add her golden yellow hair and crown.
- 4Color the knight's tunic and shield with royal blue, add the golden star on the shield, and fill his helmet and boots with slate gray.
- 5Paint the pumpkin pumpkin orange, the feather tomato red, and the window panes sky blue, then color the stepping stones light gray.
- 6Optional: add a few darker shadows on the stones and door with chocolate brown or navy blue for depth, and leave small white highlights on the faces and pumpkin.
