Sailboat, Lighthouse and Seagulls With a Rainbow

A gentle color plan to get started — mix in your own anytime.

• sky blue
• teal
• red
• golden yellow
• medium gray
• royal blue
• pale blue
• light sky blue
• grass green
• warm brown
• pale yellow
• bright yellow

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.

1. 1Start with the rainbow: paint the outer arc red, the middle band golden yellow, and the inner band teal, leaving the sky background white.
2. 2Color the sea with sky blue, then fill the top sail stripe with sky blue and the middle sail stripe with royal blue, keeping the other sail stripes white.
3. 3Paint the boat's top and bottom hull stripes red, leaving the white stripes in between, then color the cabin light sky blue with a royal blue porthole center.
4. 4Color the lighthouse's red bands and red lamp top, keep the white sections white, and fill the rocks with medium gray and grass green patches.
5. 5Add the mast in warm brown, the flag in pale yellow, and the small cloud in pale blue, leaving the seagulls and the big clouds white.
6. 6Optional: add a few light strokes of a darker shade in the sky-blue sea and the gray rocks to give them a little depth.
