Two cheerful clouds anchor the ends of a big five-band rainbow in this picture. Each cloud has round eyes, rosy cheeks and an open smile. Up in the top right corner, a smiling sun with a round face and short rounded rays looks down over everything. Two rolling hills run along the bottom, dotted with little grass tufts, and a couple of small bushes peek in from the left and right edges. Those wide rainbow stripes are easy for small hands to fill, so preschoolers and early learners should do well with this one. You could color the bands red, orange, yellow, green and blue, make the sun a sunny yellow, and give the clouds a soft sky blue. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the rainbow arcs from the outside in: bright red on the outer arc, then orange, sunny yellow, grass green, and bright blue on the innermost arc.
- 2Fill both clouds with sky blue, keeping the eye whites and the little shine dots white.
- 3Color the sun's face and all of its rays sunny yellow, leaving the background around them white.
- 4Fill the two rolling hills with lime green, then color the bushes at the left and right edges forest green.
- 5Add the smiles on both clouds in rose pink, leaving the small tongue-free mouth shapes bright and clean.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading along the edges of the hills and clouds, or sketch short strokes to give the rainbow some texture.
