With its curled tail wrapped around a tall blade of seagrass, a smiling seahorse with big round eyes takes center stage in this detailed underwater scene. Its body is divided into bumpy segments, and it has a fan-shaped fin on its back, a small crown of spikes on its head and a long snout. Tall, overlapping seagrass leaves fill the page, with feathery leafy plants on both sides. Five small striped fish swim around the seahorse, and little snails with spiral shells sit on the leaves. Round bubbles float near the top, and a few pebbles rest along the bottom edge. There's lots to color here, from the seahorse's body plates to every fish stripe. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the seahorse's head and most of its body segments with golden yellow, leaving the small bubbles on its head and the eye whites white.
- 2Fill the curled tail and the lower body segments with golden yellow, then add a touch of amber to a few middle body segments for warmth.
- 3Paint the top spiky ridge and the spike on the head with bright orange so they stand out against the yellow.
- 4Color the bright seagrass blades with lime green and the darker blades with grass green, leaving white gaps where the blades overlap the fish and snails.
- 5Fill the tall seaweed plants on the left and the blades at the far edges with deep leaf green, and color the rocks at the bottom with pale sand and the pebble with warm gray.
- 6Optional: add a little deep leaf green in the shadowed parts of the seagrass, and keep the fish, snails, seaweed and background water white to let them pop.
