Six Flamingos Hanging Out in a Lily Pad Pond

There are six flamingos in this pond, and no two stand quite the same way. Three are upright with long S-curved necks, and two of those lean their heads together in the middle. One more stands at the right edge of the lake. The last three dip their beaks into the rippling water as if hunting for a snack, with small ring ripples around their bills. All of them have feather details on the wings and black-tipped beaks to color. You'll also find reeds and grasses, cattails in the bottom corners, and water lilies with lily pads along the bottom. In the distance there's a far shoreline with bushes, low hills and puffy clouds overhead. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the water and sky: color the ripples, the reflections in the pond and the clouds with sky blue, leaving the white highlights on the water untouched.
- 2Color all the flamingo bodies, necks and heads with coral pink, keeping the small beak highlight at the top of the center flamingo white.
- 3Add rose pink on the darker wing feathers of the large center flamingo and the right-hand flamingos for depth.
- 4Fill the distant hills and shoreline with forest green, lime green and soft green, then use bright green for the bushes at the corners and the lily pads.
- 5Finish the reeds and cattails: use brown for the cattail stalks at the right and left edges, and leave the stems of the grass white.
- 6Optional: add a little extra rose pink under the wings and along the bellies to make the flamingos look more rounded.
