Floating weightlessly through space, a happy young astronaut waves with one hand raised, a big open-mouthed smile showing inside the round helmet. The suit has striped, puffy sleeves and legs, chunky boots and gloves, a backpack, and a chest panel with a circle, a small button and a slot to color in. A long curly cord trails behind, which gives little hands a fun line to follow. Stars of all sorts surround the figure, from simple outlines to spiky starbursts and tiny four-point sparkles, and a ringed planet sits in the upper right corner. Big, clear shapes make this a good match for preschoolers and early elementary kids with crayons or markers. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big skin areas: fill the face and ears with light peach, and the open smile with soft pink.
- 2Color the hair chestnut brown, then fill the helmet glass with pale blue and its inner shine with very pale blue, leaving the helmet top white.
- 3Use sky blue for the waving hand, the right glove, the helmet side pieces and the boots, and deep blue for the boot soles.
- 4Add bright red stripes on the sleeves, the knees and the boot tops, and fill the backpack and chest panel with light gray.
- 5Color the tether hose, the planet rings and the stars in golden yellow, the planet body in sea green with a leaf green top band, and the bigger stars in orange.
- 6Optional: Leave the suit, the eye whites and the background white, and add a little darker shading under the arms and legs for depth.
