Here's a fluffy chick bursting out of a cracked eggshell, wings flung wide and beak open in a happy grin. Its big round eyes have shiny highlights, and one small tuft of feathers sticks up on its head. You can't miss the zigzag break across the top of the shell, and the rest of the egg is one large smooth shape that's easy to fill in. A daisy-style flower with rounded petals grows on each side of the egg, each on a stem with pointed leaves, and a smaller third flower is tucked into the bottom right. Bold outlines and roomy spaces work nicely for preschoolers and early elementary kids with crayons or chunky markers. Soft yellow suits the fuzzy chick, orange the beak, and a pale blue or lavender egg will help the chick stand out. The PDF is free to download and needs no sign-up. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big egg shell at the bottom: fill it with sky blue, and leave the grass blades and flower stems white.
- 2Color the chick's round head and both fluffy wings with golden yellow, keeping the eye whites bright white.
- 3Fill the pink flower on the left and its petals with coral pink, and give its center a golden yellow touch.
- 4Color the purple flower on the right with lavender purple petals and a golden yellow center, then leave the small white flower in the front as it is apart from its yellow center.
- 5Use tangerine orange for the beak, warm orange for the broken piece of shell on the right, and cherry red for the open mouth.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of sky blue along the bottom of the egg and golden yellow shadows under the wings to give the drawing some depth.
