Baby Chick Hatching from a Cracked Egg

Coloring guide
Here's a cheerful chick bursting out of its eggshell with both wings in the air, like it's saying hello to the world. The big round eyes have shiny highlights, the open beak is smiling and a small tuft of feathers sits on its head. Fluffy cheeks add a soft, round look. A zigzag crack runs across the top of the shell, and a few blades of grass curl around the base of the egg. Large shapes and bold lines make this free printable a good match for preschoolers and early elementary kids still working on crayon control. Soft yellow works for the chick, bright orange for the beak and pale blue or pink for the shell. Green markers help the grass stand out. It's also handy for spring or Easter activities at home or in class. Kids who like Baby Chicks coloring pages usually enjoy Easter Eggs and Easter Bunny too.

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big egg shell at the bottom and fill it with sky blue, working carefully up to the cracked edge.
- 2Color the chick's head, body and both wings with golden yellow, leaving the small white gaps where the wings meet the body untouched.
- 3Fill the grass tufts on the left, right and bottom with grass green, keeping the thin blades crisp.
- 4Color the top part of the beak orange and the open mouth soft pink.
- 5Keep the eye whites and the small shine spots in the eyes white so the chick looks bright and lively.
- 6Optional: add a few light strokes of a darker yellow on the lower body and wings for a touch of depth.
