Cracked Egg Surprise: Baby Chick with Wings Raised

Coloring guide
A fluffy chick pokes out of a broken eggshell with both wings up high, and it looks thrilled to be out in the world. It has big shiny eyes, a small open beak with a tiny tongue, and a little tuft of feathers on top of its head. The jagged edge of the shell wraps around its belly, and the large smooth bottom of the egg leaves plenty of blank space for little hands. Small grass tufts sit on both sides of the egg, and a few broken shell pieces lie on the ground. Bold, clean outlines make this free printable a good fit for preschoolers and kindergartners. Soft yellow feathers, an orange beak and a pastel pattern on the shell give it a spring look. It could be a nice addition to an Easter table or a classroom spring activity. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the chick's head, both wings, and the fluffy body feathers with golden yellow, leaving the eye whites untouched.
- 2Color the big cracked eggshell and the two broken pieces on the grass with sky blue.
- 3Color the upper beak and the lower beak warm orange.
- 4Fill the open mouth inside the beak with coral pink.
- 5Keep the white eye circles and the grass outlines white so the eyes shine and the background stays bright.
- 6Optional: add a few light strokes of a slightly darker yellow on the wings and a second layer of sky blue on the egg for a soft, textured look.
