This friendly butterfly faces you head on with its wings stretched wide, a big grin and round sparkly eyes. Two curved antennae rise from its head, and each one ends in a small ball. The body is striped in neat segments. Each of the four wings holds large and small circles, so there are lots of open spaces to fill. Lines are bold and thick, which helps preschoolers and early elementary kids who are still working on pencil control. With no background, the butterfly gets all the attention. You could do the biggest circles on the upper wings in sunny yellow, the little ones in turquoise or pink, and the wing edges in purple or orange. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill both large upper wings with bubblegum pink, leaving the big circles on them empty for now.
- 2Color both lower wings sky blue, working around the big round shapes at the bottom.
- 3Fill the two large upper wing circles with lemon yellow, and the two small upper circles with sky blue.
- 4Color the two small lower circles light orange and the two large lower circles lime green, then add violet purple to the two small dots near the body.
- 5Color the head, the stinger tip and the middle two body stripes lemon yellow, and the top, bottom and remaining body stripes deep orange.
- 6Color the two antenna balls bubblegum pink. Optional: Add light shading along the edges of the wings with a slightly darker tone of the same color for a bit more depth.
