Right in the middle of the page sits a big, friendly butterfly with a smile, curly antennae and wings spread wide. Hearts, spirals, circles and rows of little dots fill each wing, which leaves lots of small spaces to color. Above, a sun with pointed rays shines between fluffy clouds, with a few small hearts drifting through the sky. Flowers and leaves frame the scene: larger daisy-style blooms in the bottom corners, plus tulip buds, small blossoms and grass along the ground. Kids who like detailed pages will enjoy this one, since the wing patterns take some patience. It's free to print. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the sun and the butterfly's body: color the sun and the upper body in sunny yellow, and the body segments in amber gold, leaving the eyes white.
- 2Fill the two clouds and the bushes at the sides with baby blue and leaf green, keeping the flower petals and background white.
- 3Color the big wing areas with ocean blue and azure blue, then add light blue on the lower wing edges and swirls.
- 4Add the hearts in pink and the wing edges and dots in coral pink or raspberry, working around the white circles.
- 5Fill the lower wings with orange, violet, and orchid purple stripes, plus a touch of slate gray near the lower right wing.
- 6Finish the grass hill with lime green and add a little soft lemon on the small tulip bud. Optional: add slightly darker shading along the wing edges for depth.
