A friendly horse peeks over the half door of a wooden barn stall. It has big round eyes, pointed ears, a flowing wavy mane and a gentle smile. The stable door has metal hinges and a diagonal plank brace, and in front of it sit a round bucket with a handle and a tied hay bale with loose, spiky straw ends. Outside, a bright sun with long rays shines in the corner, a wooden fence runs along the right side, and a rounded bush and small tufts of grass fill out the farmyard. The shapes are large and clean, which suits preschoolers and early elementary kids, and the page is a free printable. Chestnut brown with a golden mane works for the horse, with warm yellows for the hay and gray tones for the hinges and bucket so the animal stands out against the weathered barn boards. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the red barn walls: fill the stable planks and the top red section with barn red.
- 2Color the wooden door frame, posts, crossbar, diagonal brace and top beam with light wood tan, then the fence rails and posts with wood brown.
- 3Fill the horse's head, ears and face with caramel brown, and add pale yellow to the flowing mane and forelock.
- 4Color the hay bales with golden yellow and the sun with golden yellow too, adding light blue rays around it.
- 5Paint the bucket in ocean blue with a royal blue rim, make the hinges silver gray, and fill the grass with grass green and the bush with forest green.
- 6Optional: Add coral pink inside the horse's ears and a little peach on the inner ear, and use charcoal gray for the dark stable interior behind the horse.
