Cheerful Matryoshka Doll with Flower Apron and Hearts

This nesting doll has rosy round cheeks, big sparkly eyes and long lashes, and she smiles out from under her headscarf. The scarf is tied in a little knot at her neck. On the front of her sarafan is a big five-petal flower with two leaves, framed by scalloped lace trim along the apron edge. More scalloped ruffles decorate her sleeves, and she sits on a small rounded base. Three outlined hearts float around her head, two on the left and one on the right. Bold lines and large shapes make it easy for younger kids with chunky crayons, while the lace and petals give older children some detail to practice on. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the face with light peach, leaving the eye shines and the eye whites white.
- 2Color the hair with chocolate brown, working from the top of the head down toward the headscarf.
- 3Color the headscarf, the lower body, the bottom base, the collar petals and the top flower petal with bright red.
- 4Fill the apron with royal blue, then color the apron bib, the lace trim, the sleeve bands, the flower center and the round button with golden yellow.
- 5Color the sleeves cream, the two leaves grass green, the three hearts cherry red, and the cheeks and smile coral pink. Optional: Add a little darker shading on the red areas for depth.
