Rainbow Sea View With a Resting Mermaid
Coloring guide
Out in the middle of the sea, a young mermaid with long, wavy hair leans on a smooth rock, chin on one hand, smiling softly. She wears a shell-shaped top and a little starfish clip, and her scaly tail curls down to a big ribbed fin dipping into the water. Behind her, a large rainbow arches over the horizon between two fluffy clouds, a small sailboat floats on the right, and three seagulls cross the sky. Wavy lines fill the water all around. Her long hair and tail scales offer lots of detail, while the rock and sky are quick to fill in. A teal and purple tail will stand out nicely against the blue water. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the rainbow arching over the scene: color the outer band bright red, the next band orange, the next golden yellow, and the inner band sage green, leaving the clouds white.
- 2Fill the sky with pale blue and the sea with sky blue on both sides of the horizon line, keeping the little sailboat sail and hull white and the seagulls white.
- 3Color the mermaid's skin light peach on her face, shoulders, arms and body, then add coral orange to the bent elbow for a little shading.
- 4Color her long wavy hair bright red, working around the face, and leave the small starfish clip white.
- 5Fill the rock with light gray, then color the tail scales with teal and aqua green, and the two seashells on her top with lavender purple.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker teal at the bottom edges of the tail scales and the rock for depth.
