Cozy Pig Resting on Straw Inside the Barn

A happy little pig is stretched out on a soft nest of loose straw with its front hooves tucked together, ears flopped to the sides and a big smile. Hay bales are stacked against the wooden barn wall behind it, and an old lantern hangs from a bracket in the upper corner. A pitchfork leans near the right edge, and a small wooden bucket with a rope handle sits at the bottom right. Out the barn window you can spot a sun with rays, a wooden fence and rolling trees. There's lots of texture here for kids to work on, from scribbly straw to wood planks. Soft pink for the pig and golden yellow for the hay would look good, plus a warm orange glow on the sun and lantern for a sunny afternoon feel. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the pig: fill the head, body and front legs with pale pink, and leave the small eye shines white.
- 2Fill the snout and inner ears with coral pink, then color the hooves dark brown.
- 3Color the wooden walls, window frame, beams, lantern and bucket wood with wood brown, and add steel gray to the bucket bands.
- 4Paint the window sky with sky blue and the clouds with pale blue, then add leafy green trees and light green grass outside the window.
- 5Fill the hay bales and the straw on the floor with golden yellow, and color the pitchfork and shovel handles caramel.
- 6Optional: add a little darker wood brown or dark brown along the edges of the straw and walls to give the scene more depth.
