Pot of Gold, Shamrocks and a Rainbow

A happy little pot of gold with a big open-mouth smile and round sparkling eyes sits in the grass, heaped high with chunky coins. A wide rainbow arcs across the top of the page behind it in clean, even bands that are easy for small hands. On the left are a large three-leaf clover and a tall spotted mushroom, and on the right there's another clover and a tiny mushroom. A few more clover leaves peek out near the pot, loose coins rest on the ground in front and tufts of grass fill the bottom edge. The shapes are big and simple, which works well for preschoolers and early elementary kids. Bright gold and yellow suit the coins, and red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple fit the rainbow stripes. It's a fun free printable for a St. Patrick's Day activity at home or in class. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the rainbow: color the outer arc bright red, then orange, golden yellow, medium green and sky blue for the innermost arc, working from the outside in.
- 2Fill the big pot body and its rim and both handles with dark green, and color the lid-like edge of the pot top as well.
- 3Color the three shamrocks and the grass tufts in bright green, leaving the small gap near the shamrock stem white.
- 4Fill the pot's coins with golden yellow, including the coins piled on the ground in front, and color the inner part of the left handle lime green.
- 5Color the mushroom caps bright red and the mushroom stems and undersides pale cream, then add the coral pink tongue inside the smile.
- 6Optional: Leave the eye whites, the smile highlights and the white spots on the mushrooms unpainted so they pop against the colors.
