Right in the middle of this pumpkin patch sits one big, round pumpkin with shiny eyes and an open smile. Two smaller pumpkins keep it company, one at the lower left and one on the right, with large leaves and curly vines wrapped around them all. Farther back, a wooden wheelbarrow with a spoked wheel carries two more pumpkins. A picket fence, a few bushes and small tufts of grass sit behind it. The lines are bold and the sections are roomy, so younger kids can handle the pumpkin ridges and leaves without much fuss. Orange pumpkins, a mix of greens on the leaves and vines, and brown for the wheelbarrow and fence would be a good start. Print it at home for an easy afternoon activity. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big pumpkins, the small pumpkins and the cart pumpkins in tangerine orange, leaving the smiling face areas for later.
- 2Color the leaves and curly vines: use bright red and tomato orange for the left leaves, golden yellow for the bottom and side leaves, and lime green for the curly vines.
- 3Fill the wheelbarrow and its wheel in warm brown, then add a caramel center to the wheel.
- 4Paint the bushes and grass in grass green, and the stems in grass green or olive green.
- 5Add the mouth in coral pink and leave the eye whites and the fence posts white.
- 6Optional: add a little darker orange along the edges of the pumpkins for a bit of depth.
