Smiling Steam Engine With Freckles on Tracks

A cheerful little steam locomotive rolls toward us along curved railroad tracks, its round face tilted slightly with wide eyes, freckles across the cheeks and nose, and an open smile. A tall chimney rises from the top, with two rounded domes behind it and a boxy cab at the back. The front buffer beam has two round lamps and a coupling hook in the middle. Small wheels show along the side. Behind the train you'll find puffy clouds, rolling hills, and a few leafy trees in the distance. The big face makes a great spot to talk about feelings, so ask your child what color mood this happy engine has. Then pick the body color first and match the trees and sky around it. The simple shapes work well for younger kids with chunky crayons, while the freckles and tree details give older kids something to focus on.
