A smiling little steam engine runs along a curved toy track in a child's bedroom, pulling an open cargo car and two covered cars. Each car has big round wheels that are fun to color in. Behind the track, you can spot the corner of a bed with a pillow, a shelf holding a teddy bear and a toy block castle, and a window with a gathered curtain. A few wooden blocks and a triangle block sit on the floor up front, with small tufts scattered over the rug. Large shapes and bold lines help preschoolers and early elementary kids practice pencil control. Try a red engine with a yellow chimney, then a warm brown teddy bear. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the bed blanket and the sheet edge with bright blue, and color the rug area and the blue rug edge with sky blue, leaving the bed pillow white.
- 2Color the wooden parts like the bed frame, headboard, bed post, floor edges, baseboard and track with caramel and honey tan, and use brown for the cabinet and its shelves.
- 3Paint the engine boiler, engine face and the cab window area with golden yellow, then make the cab, cab roof and chimney bright blue, royal blue or red as shown.
- 4Color the wheels and the front bumper red, and add golden yellow hubs in the middle of the wheels so they pop.
- 5Fill the green car with grass green, the yellow car and its roof with golden yellow, and the blue car with royal blue, then add the teddy bear in light tan with brown ears and paws.
- 6Optional: Add the toy blocks in bright blue, red, golden yellow and grass green, and finish the curtain and plant with cream and green for a cozy bedroom feel.
