Squirrel Hugging an Acorn as Fall Leaves Drift Down

Coloring guide
Here's a happy squirrel sitting upright and grinning, with a big acorn held in both paws against its round belly. It has sparkly eyes, a small nose, tufted ears and a bushy tail curled up behind. Four leaves float down around it, and a few grass tufts sit by its feet. The acorn cap has a crosshatch pattern, a handy spot for practicing careful coloring. Big shapes and bold lines make this a good free printable for preschoolers and early elementary kids with crayons or markers. Reddish-brown fits the squirrel and its tail, golden tan suits the acorn, and the falling leaves can be orange, red and yellow for a cozy feel. Add this to your Fall coloring page collection, alongside Thanksgiving and Summer.
A gentle color plan to get started — mix in your own anytime.
- orange
- cream
- golden yellow
- amber
- soft pink
- brown
A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the squirrel's head, body, bushy tail, paws and haunches in orange, leaving the eye whites white.
- 2Fill the belly with cream and the acorn nut with amber, so the acorn stands out against the squirrel.
- 3Color the acorn cap and stem brown, leaving small gaps between the crosshatch lines so the pattern shows.
- 4Add soft pink to the inside of both ears, the nose and the tongue for a cute finishing touch.
- 5Color all the falling leaves golden yellow, including the ones at the top, sides and bottom right.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of brown or orange along the tail and the edges of the belly to give the squirrel some depth.
