Wide eyes and a tiny open mouth give this round little pufferfish a totally startled look. Pointy spikes dot its puffed-up body all the way around, and two round circles sit on its cheeks. Look for small V-shaped marks on the belly and a ribbed fin on each side. Bubbles of different sizes float on the left, right and bottom of the page, which gives little hands lots of simple shapes to fill in. Thick outlines and large open areas help preschoolers and early elementary kids color neatly. Sunny yellow or soft orange for the body, pink cheeks, and light blue or purple bubbles are one idea. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the big round body of the pufferfish with golden yellow, leaving the eye whites and the black pupils untouched.
- 2Color both side fins orange, using the fin lines as guides for simple strokes.
- 3Color the two cheeks and the ring around the mouth coral pink, then fill the inside of the open mouth with light pink.
- 4Fill the top and side spikes with cream, and the lower spikes with pale yellow.
- 5Color all the bubbles sky blue, leaving a small white shine spot in each one.
- 6Optional: add a few lighter or darker strokes in the body and spikes for a hand-colored texture.
