Storytime Bee on a Spotted Mushroom

Coloring guide
Up on top of a big spotted mushroom sits a smiling little bee with round antennae, holding an open book in both hands as if reading a story. It has large sparkly eyes, a happy open mouth, a striped tummy and two rounded wings behind its back. The mushroom cap is covered in big oval spots, with lined gills underneath and a thick stem below. Three flowers with round centers and small leaves sit in tufts of grass at the bottom, and a little lantern with a lit candle stands next to the mushroom. Small hands can handle the large spots and wings, and the flowers and lantern add detail for older kids. Soft yellow and black suit the bee, with a red or orange mushroom cap and bright flower petals. Download the free PDF for a fun afternoon activity. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the mushroom cap in tomato red and the stem in cream, leaving the white spots empty.
- 2Color the bee's wings in pale blue, then fill the bee's head and body in tomato red with the face left cream.
- 3Fill the open book in royal blue, the pages and spine included, and color the bee's arms and shoes in charcoal gray.
- 4Add the flowers in lavender purple and soft violet, the small flower in rose pink, and the leaves and grass in leaf green.
- 5Color the lantern and antenna balls in golden yellow and the candle flame in orange, keeping the eye whites and lantern top white.
- 6Optional: Add a little bright blue shading on the book and wings to make them pop.
