A smiling human heart with big shiny eyes and an open happy mouth flexes both arms to show off its muscles, a playful way to explain that the heart is a muscle. The main blood vessels sit on top, including tubes that curve up and out to the sides. The front of the heart is cut open so you can see two large chambers inside, each with a wavy line near the top. Five small outline hearts float around the character, two on the left, two on the right and one at the bottom. Big shapes and thick clear lines keep it easy for little hands. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the heart body, the arms, the big top artery and the four background hearts with bright red, leaving the eye whites and the bicep highlights white.
- 2Fill the side and branch blood vessels, the curved vessel on the top right, and the small tubes on the right with sky blue, and add pale aqua to the small opening at the top of the left vessel.
- 3Color the two lower heart chambers with dark red, then fill the upper valve flaps with sky blue.
- 4Color the open mouth's tongue with soft pink and the thin walls around the chambers with light pink, leaving a clean white gap between them.
- 5Color the smile opening with deep maroon and fill the pupils with black or dark brown for expressive eyes.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading along the edges of the chambers and vessels to give the heart more depth.
