A tall banana plant takes up the whole page. Big broad leaves fan out from the top, and a heavy bunch hangs from a curved stem. The fruits are stacked in several tiers called hands, and every banana has a small dark tip. A pointed bud with a few petal-like bracts dangles below the bunch. Down at the base, the thick trunk rises from a patch of grass and is surrounded by feathery fern fronds and rounded bushes, with a winding path curving through the background on the right. The large veined leaves are easy to color, and the bananas give small hands a fun bit of detail work. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the big banana leaves and the tall trunk in grass green, leaving the thin white highlight lines along the leaf middles and the stalk unpainted.
- 2Fill the lighter leaf sheaths around the lower trunk and the bottom grass in lime green to add a fresh layer.
- 3Color the hanging banana bunch in golden yellow, one banana at a time, leaving the small dark tips as they are.
- 4Fill the two red bracts under the bunch in berry red and the bottom flower bud in plum purple.
- 5Add the bushes, ferns and grass in leafy green and forest green, then color the bunch stem in grass green.
