Tall Graduation Cake with Cap Topper and Balloons
Coloring guide
A tall three-tier cake stands on a scalloped pedestal stand, with a graduation cap and its dangling tassel on top. A rolled diploma tied with a bow wraps around the middle tier, and small stars are scattered over all three layers. Piped dollops of frosting edge each tier, and swooping garland lines decorate the bottom layer. Three balloons with curly strings float behind the cake, and a few more stars drift through the empty space around it. Little hands can fill in the wide cake layers, while the stars, frosting swirls and tassel give older kids smaller details. A bright blue cap with a gold tassel looks good, with pink or yellow stars. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big red tiers: fill the bottom cake tier with cherry red, leaving the garland ribbons and stars for later.
- 2Color the middle tier and the cake stand platter and pedestal with sky blue, and fill the top tier with navy blue.
- 3Fill the balloons: make the left balloon golden yellow, the top balloon cherry red, and the right balloon grass green, leaving their shine spots white.
- 4Color the graduation cap and its base charcoal gray, and keep the tassel and the rolled diploma paper white.
- 5Add the golden yellow frosting rosettes along each tier, the garland ribbons, and the stars, and color the bow cherry red.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading under the cake tiers and balloons with the same color to give them some depth.
