Three Dragonflies Zipping Over a Lily Pond
Coloring guide
Three friendly dragonflies with big eyes and happy faces zip over a pond in this detailed page. The biggest hovers in the middle with its long wings spread wide, a smaller one flies at the upper left, and another glides along on the right. Large water lilies in full bloom float below them beside round lily pads, and a closed lily bud rises at the bottom right. Small bubbles and ripples dot the water. Tall cattails and grass frame both sides, and a little smiling snail sits on a reed at the upper right. Bushes, trees and a puffy cloud fill the background. The wings have plenty of cells to fill in, so soft blues and purples with a shimmer of green work well, plus pink and yellow for the lilies. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the pond water with sky blue, working carefully around the little bubbles so they stay white.
- 2Fill the big lily pads, the grassy bank, and the bushes with bright green, then add lime green to the small lily pads in the corners.
- 3Color the lotus flowers with light pink and coral pink on the outer petals, and use blush pink for the inner petals and centers.
- 4Use warm brown for the cattail heads and snail shell, and golden yellow for the snail's head. Leave the sky and the background white.
- 5Fill the dragonfly wings with pale blue, leaving small white highlights, and color the tall reeds on the sides with leaf green and forest green.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading to the water edges and the reed stems for more depth.
