This detailed scene shows three plump hens sharing a rustic coop. One perches on a wooden roost beam near the top left, another settles into a straw-filled nesting box in the middle, and a third strolls over the straw-covered floor up front. Look around and you'll spot a hanging feeder full of round grain on a chain, a small window showing a tree and clouds, a wooden ramp with cleats, a hay bale and a bucket tucked in the corner. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big wooden walls and the ramp in wood tan, using long strokes that follow the plank lines.
- 2Color the roof beams, the perch, the nest box edges and the barn post in warm brown to add contrast.
- 3Fill the top hen's body and head with rusty orange, then add warm brown to her wings and tail, leaving the eye whites and wing highlights white.
- 4Paint the window sky in light sky blue, the tree and bush in grass green, the bucket in bright blue, and the feeder cone and bowl in silver gray.
- 5Color the straw on the floor in straw yellow, then add bright red to the two combs and leave the front and nest hens mostly white.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of warm brown along the wood edges for a cozy, weathered look.
