Above a wooden picket fence in a garden, three smiling butterflies flutter by, each with big eyes and curly antennae. The largest is at the top left, its wide wings covered in circles and rounded petal-like shapes. A medium one flies off to the right, and a small one hovers in the middle. Underneath, three tall tulips stand beside the fence, surrounded by pointed leaves and several daisy-style flowers with round centers. Soft bushes and a tiny leafy sprig fill in the background. Little hands can tackle the big wing circles, while the flowers give older kids more detail. Purple and pink look good on the wings, red and yellow on the tulips, and warm brown on the fence boards. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the three butterfly wings: color the big outer wing areas violet purple, leaving the white dots empty.
- 2Fill the inner wing patches with rose pink, and color the small butterfly's wing patches tangerine orange.
- 3Color the butterfly bodies amber gold with stripes, and the heads lemon yellow, keeping the small eye whites white.
- 4Paint the tulips: left one bright red, middle one lemon yellow, right one violet purple, and the fence caramel tan.
- 5Fill the grass and leaves with forest green and bright green, adding pale green to the small leaves, then make the daisy centers lemon yellow and leave the petals white.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of forest green on the sides of the tulips and grass to give them some depth.
