Waving Ghost Beside a Little Haunted House

Big sparkly eyes, a rosy open-mouthed grin and both arms flung wide: this ghost floats up front as if saying hello. Behind it is a tall, narrow house with a pointed roof, a round window with cross panes, a chimney and an arched wooden door with steps. A large round moon peeks out behind the roof on the left. Everything sits on a small grassy hill with two tufts of grass and rounded bushes on each side. Thick, clean outlines and big open spaces are easy on small hands, so preschoolers and early elementary kids should do well with it. Soft light blue or lavender suits the ghost and bright yellow the moon, and warm colors can go on the door and roof. The free printable PDF is friendly rather than spooky. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big full moon in golden yellow, then fill the knob on the door with the same golden yellow.
- 2Color the house walls in lavender purple, and the roof and its edges in deep purple.
- 3Fill the chimney and its cap with charcoal gray, then color the front step and the door step in light gray.
- 4Color the door panels in warm brown and the door frame and window frame in amber orange, leaving the window glass for the next step.
- 5Fill the window panes with sky blue, color the two bushes forest green, and add coral pink to the open smile, leaving the ghost body white.
- 6Optional: Add a few light strokes of a darker shade near the roof edges and the bottom of the moon to give the drawing some depth.
