Waving Lizard on a Lily Pad With a Dragonfly

Sitting on a big lily pad, this cheerful lizard raises one front foot in a friendly wave. It has large round eyes, a wide open smile and a long curved tail, with little oval spots along the tail, neck and side. In the upper right, a smiling dragonfly with big eyes and four wings hovers as if the two are saying hello. The pond around them holds two blooming water lilies, several more lily pads, small ripples and a clump of tall reeds in the bottom left corner. Spots and petals give young colorists some good small-detail practice. Bright lime green with orange or yellow dots looks fun on the lizard, and soft pink suits the lily petals. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the large lily pad and the side lily pads in leaf green, and the grass blades at the bottom left too, leaving the thin water lines white.
- 2Fill the lizard's head, back, legs, feet, toes and waving arm with lime green, keeping the eye whites white.
- 3Color the lizard's belly pale yellow, then add golden yellow stripes on the tail and back and orange spots along the back and tail.
- 4Paint the water lily petals in blush pink, rose pink and hot pink, with salmon pink centers and soft rose tips, and color the lily bases leaf green.
- 5Color the dragonfly wings pale sky blue, the mouth cherry red with a salmon pink tongue, and the water ripples sky blue.
- 6Optional: add a little forest green shading on the underside of the tail and along the lily pad edges for depth.
