This little zebra is drawn from the side, glancing back over its shoulder with big shiny eyes, long lashes and a tiny tongue sticking out of a happy smile. Its mane is made of rounded, petal-like tufts that run from the top of the head down the neck. There's a small feathered wing on its back, and the tail ends in a leafy tuft. Bold stripes mark the face, body and every chunky leg. With no background, kids can focus on the zebra or draw their own scene. Thick outlines and large open areas make it a good match for preschoolers and early elementary kids. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start by coloring the big areas golden yellow: the head, the cheek, the body, and the back leg, leaving the eye whites and the background white.
- 2Fill the muzzle and the front leg with cream so they stand out as lighter patches against the yellow.
- 3Color the wing and the irises of both eyes sky blue, then fill the mane tufts with a mix of hot pink and sky blue as in the example.
- 4Paint the hooves and the tail base caramel brown, and color the tail tip hot pink and the tongue light pink.
- 5Add tangerine orange stripes on the wing base, the horn, the ear, the cheek, the body, and the lower legs to give the pony its striped look.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading on the edges of the golden yellow areas, and keep the small eye shines white so the eyes sparkle.
