Stargazing Wizard and Owl on a Castle Balcony

Coloring guide
A kindly old wizard leans on the stone balcony of a castle tower and raises a star-tipped wand toward a big full moon covered in crater circles. His tall pointed hat and long robe are both decorated with stars, and his wavy beard and bushy mustache make him look friendly. Beside him on the ledge, a small owl with big round eyes gazes the same way. Behind the pair you can see a pointed brick turret with an arched window, scattered stars, puffy clouds and rolling treetops far off. The arched openings along the tower wall add some fun detail for little hands. Deep purple or midnight blue suits the hat and robe, and bright yellow stars and wand will really stand out. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big blue areas: color the wizard's pointed hat, robe, and sleeves in royal blue, and use navy blue for the darker folds of the sleeves and hat tip. Leave the long beard white.
- 2Color the castle in pale gray for the stone walls and balcony, then fill the arch openings with charcoal gray and the tower roof with bright blue, adding medium gray to the shadowed arch edges.
- 3Add the gold details next: the moon craters, the star at the tip of the wand, the sleeve cuffs, and the arch frame around the window in golden yellow or amber.
- 4Paint the owl in cream with warm brown wings and feet, and color the wizard's face and hands in light peach. Keep the eye whites and the beard white.
- 5Finish the background: fill the clouds in baby blue, the distant hill in lime green, and the bushes in grass green and forest green. Leave the sky and the stars white.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of navy blue or charcoal gray along one side of the hat and tower to give the drawing some depth.
