Baking Star Cookies With a Young Witch
Coloring guide
With quilted oven mitts on, a smiling young witch in a pointy buckled hat pulls a tray of star-shaped cookies from a big brick oven. She also wears a ruffled apron and long wavy hair. A mixing bowl with a spoon and a rolling pin sit on a wooden countertop in the foreground. On the wall behind her, a shelf holds several jars with fabric-topped lids, and a bundle of dried herbs hangs from a hook. The arched stone oven has detailed bricks that give kids lots of texture to fill in. With both large and small areas, this free printable suits beginner and intermediate colorers. Warm orange and red inside the oven opening and golden brown for the cookies will make them look freshly baked, and a purple hat would stand out against the bricks. Looking for more? A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the skin on the face, hands and neck using peach skin, and leave the eye whites and the bright highlights untouched.
- 2Fill the dress and the hat with lavender purple for the dress and deep purple for the hat brim, then add the dark navy hat band and buckle.
- 3Color the apron, the pocket and the apron ties with cream, leaving the thin gap areas white for a crisp look.
- 4Color the brick walls and oven arch with caramel brown and burnt orange, then fill the inner oven bricks with warm tan and the oven door with charcoal gray.
- 5Add the star cookies on the tray with medium gray for the tray and pale gold for the rolling pin, then color the mixing bowl cream with a sky blue stripe.
- 6Finish with chocolate brown hair and brick red jars, and add amber orange to the middle jars. Optional: add a little darker shading under the hat and the hair for depth.
