Apple Sniffing Hedgehog in the Grass

Coloring guide
Here a little hedgehog stands on all four paws in the grass and leans toward a big round apple, its tiny nose just about touching the stem. The apple has a single leaf on top. The hedgehog wears a happy smile and has shiny eyes, small round ears and a soft tuft of fur on its head. Jagged spikes cover its back and are easy to trace with a crayon. Only a few grass tufts are drawn around it, so there's lots of open space for little hands. The thick, clean lines work well for preschoolers and early elementary kids. A warm brown for the spikes and a bright red apple with a green leaf make a lively contrast. It's a free printable that fits a quiet afternoon or an autumn classroom activity. This fits right in with our Hedgehog coloring pages — see also Puppies and Cats.
A gentle color plan to get started — mix in your own anytime.
- warm brown
- apple red
- leaf green
- light tan
A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the whole apple with apple red, leaving the small white shine on its left side untouched.
- 2Color the apple leaf in leaf green, keeping the stem as it is.
- 3Fill the hedgehog's spiky back, head, and body with warm brown, and keep the eyes and the tiny snout highlight white.
- 4Color the hedgehog's front leg and paw area in light tan so it stands out from the brown body.
- 5Leave the grass and background white, since the example keeps them clean.
- 6Optional: Add a few darker brown strokes along the edges of the spikes for a little depth.
