Sitting on a wooden plank swing, a fluffy chick with big sparkling eyes and a tiny open beak holds the twisted ropes in its little wings. The swing hangs from a thick branch covered in five-petal blossoms and leaves. On the right side of the branch, a small birdhouse with a round entrance hole and a perch dangles down. Loose petals drift around the chick, and grassy tufts and soft mounds of bushes fill the bottom of the page. Large, clear outlines are great for preschoolers and early elementary kids, and the blossoms and petals give older children smaller spots to work on. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the chick's body, wings and hands with bright yellow, leaving the eye whites and the small shine spots white.
- 2Color the chick's beak and both feet with tangerine orange.
- 3Paint the birdhouse walls and the small perch in warm gold, and color the roof bright red.
- 4Color the blossoms and buds blush pink, and the falling petals soft pink, leaving the background white.
- 5Fill the leaves with leaf green and the branch, ropes and swing seat with warm brown and pale sand, keeping the background white.
- 6Optional: add a few darker lines of dark brown on the birdhouse hole and the seat to give a little depth.
