Baby Duck Smiling in a Puddle

Coloring guide
This little duckling is standing in a shallow puddle with its head tilted and its beak wide open in a big grin. It has big sparkly eyes, a small tuft of feathers on top of its head, and one tiny wing stuck out on each side. Simple ripple lines circle its webbed feet to show the water. Bold, clean outlines and big open areas make it a comfortable page for preschoolers and early elementary kids. Soft yellow would suit the fluffy body, with orange for the beak and feet and light blue for the ripples. Print it free for a quiet afternoon or a spring classroom activity. A gentle color plan to get started — mix in your own anytime.
- lemon yellow
- tangerine orange
- coral pink
A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the round head, the body and the wing with lemon yellow, using light even strokes and leaving the eye whites and the small shine spots white.
- 2Color the upper beak, the lower beak and both webbed feet with tangerine orange, working around the puddle lines.
- 3Fill the inside of the open mouth with coral pink so it stands out against the orange beak.
- 4Leave the big eye whites and the bright shine spots white so the eyes look sparkly, and keep the outlines dark.
- 5Leave the puddle and the background white, so the duck seems to splash in the water.
- 6Optional: add a slightly darker yellow touch along the underside of the wing and belly for a bit of depth.
