Baby Elephant Splashing at the Pond (Advanced Designs)
Coloring guide
At the edge of a pond, a smiling baby elephant lifts its trunk and sprays water droplets high into the air. A small bird sits on a rounded rock next to it with its beak open, as if chirping along. You'll also find tall cattails, grass blades, leafy bushes in the back and a few stones near the rippling water. The elephant's big ear, tufted head, wide eyes and little tail tuft give lots to color, and the splashes and wavy pond lines are great for kids who like finer details. Soft blue-gray for the elephant and bright blue for the spray work well, and a yellow or red bird will stand out against the green. Free to print for a quiet afternoon or a classroom nature theme. This fits right in with our Advanced Designs coloring pages — see also Hard / Detailed and Mandala.

- 3Paint the water spray, the water drops and the streams near the top with sky blue.
- 4Color the rocks with cool gray and the cattails with warm brown, then add the bird in golden yellow.
- 5Add coral pink to the inner ear and lower ear flap, and salmon pink inside the mouth.
- 6Finish with cream on the toenails and dark slate gray on the cattail seed head. Optional: add a few darker gray shadows on the elephant's legs for depth.
