Peekaboo Hedgehog in a Mossy Hollow Log
Coloring guide
Peeking out from inside a hollow log, this little hedgehog has big shiny eyes, a round nose and a sweet smile, with both tiny paws resting on the bottom edge of the opening. Spiky quills frame its face, and fluffy fur surrounds its small round ears. Bumpy clumps of moss sit on top of the log, and the bark has lots of curved lines for texture. Look around the log and you'll see two spotted mushrooms at the top left, two more at the bottom right, leafy sprigs, grass tufts and big oak-style leaves on the ground. Large open areas mixed with small details make it good for kids who enjoy a bit of a challenge. Use browns and tans for the quills, gray-brown for the bark, and bright red for the mushroom caps. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big mossy clumps: color the moss patches around the log and at the bottom with lime green, leaving small gaps for texture.
- 2Color the leaves in fresh green and forest green, and fill the mushroom caps in bright red, leaving the white spots and the white underside of the caps uncolored.
- 3Fill the hedgehog's face and paws with soft peach, keeping the eye shines and the white highlights white.
- 4Color the log in warm brown and the dark inside of the hollow in dark brown, then add olive brown to the small bark spots along the log.
- 5Finish the hedgehog's spines with dark brown and warm brown, leaving a few light gaps between them, and add a soft touch of white on the log for shine.
