Barnyard Friends: Pig, Lamb, Hen and Duck
Coloring guide
Right in the middle of this farmyard stands a smiling pig, with a fluffy lamb on its right and a hen and a duck gathered in front. They all look glad to be together. Behind them are a wooden barn with a gambrel roof and a big X-braced door, a split-rail fence, a tall haystack, rounded bushes and trees, and puffy clouds in the sky. Grass tufts and small flowers fill the foreground, with a few leaves in the bottom corner. The hen's layered feathers, the lamb's curly wool and the barn's planks give kids lots of texture to work on, and the large pig is easy to color. Soft pink for the pig, creamy yellow for the lamb's wool and warm red for the barn would look great. The free printable PDF is worth printing a few extra copies of. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big barn and hay: color the barn walls and roof in barn red, leaving the window and door trim white, and fill the hay pile with golden yellow.
- 2Color the pig's body and ears in peach pink, then add rose pink on the snout and cheeks, leaving the eye shine white.
- 3Fill the sheep's wool with cream white, then add the hen with carrot orange on its head and amber orange on its body, and burnt orange on the wing.
- 4Add the grass, bushes and trees in grass green and lime green, along with the fence posts and rails in warm tan.
- 5Finish the duck with pale blue gray on its wing and bright orange on its beak, and add dark brown on the hen's tail. Optional: add a little extra shading on the wings to add depth.
