Broccoli and Cauliflower Vegetable Pals

Two grinning veggie buddies stand shoulder to shoulder. The tall broccoli on the left has a thick, branching stem and big bumpy florets like clouds, with a large leaf peeking out on each side. Round eyes, a rosy open-mouth smile and little cheeks give it a friendly face. The shorter cauliflower beside it nestles in a cup of veiny leaves and has wide eyes and a happy grin of its own. With no background, young kids can focus on the two characters. Bold outlines and roomy shapes work for preschoolers and early elementary students, and the curly floret edges give a bit of fine-motor practice. Go with rich greens for the broccoli and keep the cauliflower creamy white or pale yellow so they look different. This free printable is great for healthy-eating lessons or snack time. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the broccoli stalk and the cauliflower stalk in pale lime green, leaving a small white highlight on the broccoli stalk.
- 2Fill the broccoli florets and branches with grass green, working from the top of the head down to the stalk.
- 3Color both big leaves and the back leaf in forest green, then add a darker tone to the leaf veins if you like.
- 4Fill the cauliflower head with cream white, keeping it bright and soft so it stands out next to the green.
- 5Color the two smiling mouths in coral pink, leaving the eyes white with black pupils.
- 6Optional: Add a little extra shading with a darker green on the lower broccoli florets and the underside of the leaves for depth.
