A smiling butterfly with big sparkly eyes perches on the dotted center of a large daisy, wings spread wide. The wings have big rounded sections and circles in different sizes, so they invite lots of colors. In the upper right corner a small smiling bee zooms along, and a dashed line traces its buzzing path. Under the flower, a long stem carries two big leaves with simple center veins. Young kids will like the wide open shapes, while the tiny circles on the wings and flower center give older kids more to do. Purple and pink wings, a sunny yellow daisy center and a yellow and black striped bee look nice. This free printable is a good match for a spring activity or a quiet afternoon with nature. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the two leaves and the stem with leafy green, leaving the thin vein lines uncolored.
- 2Fill the butterfly wings with violet purple, keeping the big round spots and the dotted edges for later.
- 3Color the large inner wing petals with hot pink and light pink, alternating them so the wings look layered.
- 4Fill the flower center with golden yellow and add the body in golden yellow, then color the body stripe in tangerine orange and the lower wing shadow in peach.
- 5Color the bee's wing sky blue and its head and stripes in golden yellow and amber, leaving the white highlights on the eyes.
- 6Optional: Add a little extra shading with a darker shade of violet purple along the wing edges to make the butterfly pop. Leave the daisy petals, the dashed trail and the background white.
